AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – UMass Amherst hosted the Five College Relay For Life at the Boyden Athletic Center. All of the money that was raised from Friday’s event is going directly to the American Cancer Society.
About 500 people walked along the gym’s track to raise money, awareness and support a healthy lifestyle to fight cancer, one step at a time. Relay Manager Mahsoun Choudhury told 22News that participants have raised about $28,000 so far, but that number is expected to rise by the time the event wraps up Saturday morning. In addition, Subaru is expected to donate $58,000.
The walk started at 6:00 p.m. Friday and will end at 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
Adelise Roberts of UMass Colleges Against Cancer told 22News, “Even people who can’t make the donations, but can donate their time, still have a big influence on the people battling cancer, because you have a big support system and I think that’s really important.”
22News sponsored the event and 22News Reporter Alessandra Martinez served as the emcee.
