Teen bicycle rider collides with Springfield police cruiser

The 19-year-old bike rider refused medical attention

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police said a teenager suffered only minor injuries when his bicycle collided with a police cruiser in the City’s South End, Wednesday night.

Springfield Police Sgt. Daniel Reigner told 22News the 19-year-old bicycle rider refused medical attention; “His injuries were super minor.”

A witness sent a photograph to 22News showing police officers, the cruiser and the bicycle.

The bike and the cruiser came in contact at the intersection of Adams Street and Dwight Street Extension, at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Springfield Police Lt. Mark Rolland told 22News the teenager was riding with a group of bicyclists who were criss-crossing in and out of traffic.

Lt Reigner said the cruiser tried to take evasive action, minimizing damage and injury.
