(NBC News) – If you’re still looking for a Valentine, be warned that bad phone habits might be getting in the way of finding romance.
This year’s “Singles in America” study from Match.com found there are some major tech taboos.
“When we asked these 5,000 singles what really turned them off about cell phone use, the first thing that they said is they don’t want somebody to pick up that phone and talk to somebody else while they’re on that date unless they really explain why they’re doing it,” says Dr. Helen Fisher, Match.com’s chief scientific advisor.
Texting is also frowned upon, and the majority also said they do not want to see their date’s phone face up on the table.
“They want transparency and they really want your full attention,” Fisher says.
A cracked phone, an outdated phone, or even having the typing sound on while texting can all have a negative impact on your first impression.
