5-minute closures planned due to blasting on Mass Pike in W. Stockbridge

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (WWLP) – Traffic will be stopped on the Massachusetts Turnpike in West Stockbridge for five minute periods in the coming weeks, as blasting work is done along the highway.

According to MassDOT, the blasting is being done as part of the road reconstruction process following the switch to all-electronic tolling. The blasting will be done away from the lanes of travel, but to ensure safety, they will be shutting down the roadway on both the eastbound and westbound sides for approximately five minutes at a time, while it is taking place.

The blasting schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 20-Thursday, Dec. 22: 9:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 27-Thursday, Dec. 29: 9:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 3-Friday, Jan. 6: 9:30 A.M and 12:00 P.M.
  • Monday, Jan. 9-Friday, Jan. 13: 9:30 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.

MassDOT says that the schedule is subject to change, depending upon weather conditions.
