CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – If you haven’t chosen your health insurance plan yet, you’re running out of time.

Open Enrollment will run through the end of January, but a different deadline is approaching this week. Anyone who wants coverage for the month of January, has until Friday to sign up, that’s the deadline to pay for January coverage.

The state is encouraging members to shop around for a new plan as soon as possible. That’s because if you miss Friday’s deadline, you’ll automatically get re-enrolled in your current plan.

If you get enrolled in your current plan, you’ll have to pay the January premium for it, which could be more expensive than you’re used to. The Connector estimates that premiums will increase by at least 15% in 2017, for nearly one quarter of people who want to keep their current plans.

According to the state, more than 28,000 Health Connector members have picked a new plan. You have until January 31st to switch plans.
