SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Wet portions of roads and sidewalks could have froze overnight, creating slippery conditions for both drivers and anyone walking to work or school.
Sunday’s rain and above freezing temperatures left behind the wet surfaces that froze overnight when temperatures were in the teens. The danger of black ice is that it is very difficult to see. What appears to be a wet spot in the road, could actually be very icy.
Drivers should give themselves extra time this morning on their way to school or work. Similarly, anyone walking their kids to the bus stop or their pets around the neighborhood should be cautious of icy spots on sidewalks and driveways.
Temperatures are only expected to reach the mid to upper 20s Monday, about 20 degrees cooler than Sunday’s unseasonably warm temperatures.
