(NBC News) – Millions of Americans are coping with ice, snow, and temperatures well below freezing two days before the official start of winter.
Chicago woke up Monday to temperatures 13 below zero, with windchills reaching 30 below, the coldest morning in three years.
The frigid air caused a phenomenon called “sea smoke” to form over Lake Michigan.
And it’s not just the Windy City in the deep freeze. More than 180-million Americans were in temperatures below freezing Monday, from the Canadian boarder to Central Texas.
