Chelsea High School infested with flies; school closed to deal with issue

Workers need to cut through concrete floor, fix pipes

CHELSEA, Mass. (AP) — A suburban Boston high school is expected to remain closed for at least two more days while contractors work on controlling a fly infestation that one student called “nasty.”

Superintendent Mary Bourque says Chelsea High School will remain closed Monday and Tuesday so workers can cut through a concrete floor and fix four cracked pipes underneath that are thought to be the source of the infestation.

The school was also closed for two days late last week.

The cracked pipes were discovered using video technology.

The flies were first spotted in the kitchen area earlier this month.

Student Antonio Falcon told New England Cable News the flies were in the cafeteria, gymnasium and hallways. He said windowsills “were packed with dead flies” and it was “nasty.”
