MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A disabled veteran received the keys to his brand new home.
Sergeant Michael Burns served multiple tours over in Iraq. “[I] can’t describe the feeling. I really can’t. It’s like warm and toasty inside,” says Sgt. Burns.
Homes for Our Troops is the organization that made the dream of a home come true.
“Going to combat is easy but getting this kind of recognition is kind of hard to accept,” says Burns. However, he’ll have to get used to that, and his new home. It’s decked out with new appliances, wide hallways and doorways, and a master bathroom that’s larger than life.
“It gives a meaning of stability. No more moving around,” explains Burns. “This here is like a home, and I can sit here, and I can watch my grandkids grow. I can watch them every day; things that they do, if the walls can tell memories.”
