Police warning local residents about ‘meter reader’ scheme

Call Ludlow Police at 413-583-8305 with any information

LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Ludlow Police are warning residents to look out for suspicious men who are going door to door, claiming to be from the water department and attempting to get in to homes by asking to read water meters.

According to the Ludlow Police Facebook page, the department has received a few reports from local residents about these suspects. An elderly couple told police that one of the suspects asked them to follow him in the basement, but they were smart and didn’t let him in the home.

Ludlow Police believe the attempts to get in the homes are suspicious, and “possibly even a ploy to gain entry for nefarious reasons.” Police contacted the Springfield Water Department, and were told that water department employees were not working in Ludlow at the times of each incident.

If any strangers attempted to go into your home, for any reason, call your local police department. If you live in Ludlow, and one of these suspects claiming to be from the water department comes to your door, call 413-583-8305.
