AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – While it is important for you to bundle up on winter days, it’s also important to look out for your pets when it’s cold. The bitterly cold weather we’ve been experiencing can be dangerous to you and to your pets.
It was bitterly cold this morning with wind chills 15 to 20 degrees below zero. Remember if it’s too cold for you it’s most likely too cold for your pet so keep them inside or limit the time they spend outside.
Susan Forest, of Springfield told 22News, “I only keep him out for a short amount of time, make sure he comes in right away. He has a little jacket and I keep him bundled up just like we are bundled up for skiing.”
Don’t leave your dog in a car when it’s cold because it can act as a refrigerator holding in the cold. Make sure your pet has a warm place to sleep off the floor and way from drafts. Also with more snow on the way be sure to buy snow melt that is safe on your pet’s paws.
Make sure you wipe any salt off of your pets paws when they come inside.
