CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The coldest air since mid-February is here, before winter has officially begun.
Temperatures for Thursday, and what is expected for Friday, are very unusual for this time of year: roughly 20 degrees below average during the day.
Why is this cold happening? An area of low pressure in Canada is swirling winds around it and driving colder air into New England. The coldest of that air will be right on top of us tonight and into Friday morning. Thankfully, the cold is short-lived.
This is a two-day cold period for us. We’ve got some milder air coming our way for the second half of the weekend, thanks to a storm coming our way, bringing above-average temperatures on Sunday.
The warm-up will be short-lived as well, with more cold air waiting to return by early next week.
