Northampton, Greenfield police recover $8K worth of heroin

More than 1,000 bags of heroin were found during the arrest

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Detectives from the Northampton and Greenfield Police Departments arrested a man Tuesday who they said was in possession of $8,210 worth of heroin.

Northampton Police Captain of Operations John Cartledge told 22News 47-year-old Harold Boyer of Northampton was arrested near 20 Bridge Street. According to the department’s Facebook page, the detectives were nearing the end of their shift when they said they saw suspicious drug activity and stopped.

Cartledge said the officers found 1,532  bags of heroin, some cocaine, and $270 in cash during the arrest.

Cartledge said the detectives were on a surveillance as part of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office Anti-Crime Task Force. This task force was created in 2013 and allows law enforcement agencies to pool resources and operate beyond a single town’s jurisdiction.

Northampton Police explained on their Facebook page that it is protocol to lay out and line up confiscated drugs on the table so that officers can count and recount every item before photographing, weighing, and locking it up.
