Nini’s Ristorante hosts fundraiser for Dana Farber & The Jimmy Fund

The fundraiser is in honor of the owners father, Giovanni Daniele

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The owner of Nini’s Ristorante in Easthampton is honoring his father by donating 10% of Wednesday night’s sales to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and The Jimmy Fund cancer research.

According to a news release sent to 22News, Johnny Daniele’s father, Giovanni Daniele, passed away in December of 2011 from Amyloidosis, a form of multiple myeloma.

“We started this event in 2012 as a way to celebrate my father’s life and help raise money to cure cancer. Each year the event gets bigger and we’re humbled and encouraged by the attendance and generosity of those dedicated to finding a cure,” said Johnny.

Nini’s Manager Eva Stockhamer told 22News the restaurant has donated more than $5,000 to the charity since they started the fundraiser five years ago; “Tonight’s really busy, we’re very pleased, a lot of reservations in advance which is great. Reservations so far were over 40, so I’m looking at at least 100 tonight.”

Giovanni, who arrived in Springfield from Salerno, Italy in 1960, was also a founding member of the Red Rose Restaurant, about 16 years before opening Nini’s in 1976, according to the news release. Johnny said, “He came to America, settled in the Pioneer Valley and made a living doing what he loved, cooking authentic Italian meals in his restaurants.”

Johnny added that this years’ turnout was even larger than years past.
