(NBC News) Jurors heard dramatic testimony Wednesday as the final witnesses took the stand in the federal trial of Dylann Roof.
Shooting survivor Polly Sheppard was the one person roof deliberately let live.
“Sometimes, I feel guilty. All these people are gone and I’m still here, but I know God has me here for a reason and I have to try to carry that, whatever he left for me to do,” Sheppard told NBC affiliate WCBD earlier this year.
During tearful testimony Wednesday Sheppard refused to refer to Roof by name. The 911 call she made moments after the massacre was played as well.
Roof confessed to the june 2015 shooting, so the defense put up no witnesses.
