OXON HILL, Md. (WWLP) – MGM will take the wraps off of their brand new casino in Maryland on Thursday.

In many ways, MGM National Harbor is a larger version of what MGM Springfield will look and feel like in 2018.

Both casinos will have restaurants, retail space, and gaming floors. They’ll also create thousands of new jobs in the communities they’re in– something residents in both states are looking forward to.

“We could use the jobs, and there are a lot of jobs here,” said Virginia resident Ed Harold.

Both casinos will offer thousands of jobs in everything from food service, to customer service at check-in desks, and overseeing casino floors. MGM National Harbor has reached their goal of hiring 4,000 employees. MGM Springfield plans on hiring about 3,000 employees.

Job creation isn’t the only thing the MGM casinos’ have in common, residents in Springfield and Maryland also share some of the same concerns about bringing a casino into their neighborhood.

“They’re expecting traffic to be a bit of an issue, but they’re aware of it,” Harold said. “They’re going to have plenty of police out here to keep things rolling.”

The two casinos have a lot of similarities,  but they also have some major differences. MGM Springfield will be the first full casino in Massachusetts, but in Maryland, opening a casino is nothing new. MGM National Harbor will be their sixth and final casino.

Matthew Graddy lives right up the street from MGM National Harbor. He told 22News the community has many reason to look forward to it. “We think honestly, overall, the casino is a great addition to the National Harbor. It brings entertainment at it’s best, along with gambling, but mainly entertainment, and that’s everything we see.”

MGM National Harbor will open to the public Thursday, at 11:00 p.m., and 22News won’t be the only ones at the casino for the grand opening. The president of MGM Springfield also traveled to Maryland for the grand opening.  22News will talk to him live about the two casinos, on 22News at 5:00 p.m.
