Target reissues recall for menorahs due to fire hazard

A recall was initially issued in May

WASHINGTON, DC (WBAY) – Less than three weeks before Hanukkah, Target is reissuing a recall of menorahs which can start a fire.

The clear acrylic menorahs can melt under candle heat. Target has eight reports of the menorahs melting and three reports of fires. There were no injuries.

About 2,600 were sold between October and December 2015 for about $20.

A recall was issued in May, but by then most of the menorahs were probably packed away — so Target and the Consumer Product Safety Commission are raising awareness about the recall now before the celebration of Hanukkah.

The menorahs hold candles in a pyramid design. They’re just over 10 inches long and 2 inches high.

Model number 240-14-0169 and a bar code were printed on a round, white label on the side of the menorah. However, because of the menorah’s see-through design, consumers may have removed the label.

People should not use these menorahs. Call Target toll-free at 1-800-440-0680 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central to arrange for a refund.
