NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – After decades of success, a popular store in Northampton is finally closing its doors.
After 60 years, Don Gleason’s Camping Supply is closing its doors at Pearl St., but the online portion of the store will still be operating.
Owner John Gleason said two things motivated him to close the storefront family business. The first was slow sales over the last few years, where Gleason said it wasn’t worth keeping the store open. The second was his desire to retire after working at the store for 58 years.
Gleason plans to close the shop sometime in January, and says he’ll miss his customers the most.
Gleason told 22News, “After 58 years, you’ve met and serviced a lot of customers, and I love and appreciate every last one of those customers. I don’t care if they’ve spent a dime to thousands of dollars. Every customer is appreciated.”
Everything in the store is now 10% off.
After nearly six decades at the camping store, Gleason says now, he wants to plan his own camping trip with no end date.
