Georgia executes its 9th inmate of 2016


FORSYTH, Ga. – (WSAV) The execution of condemned murderer William Sallie was carried out on Tuesday night at 10:05 p.m.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, Sallie accepted a final prayer and recorded a final statement. Sallie was sentenced to death in 2001 for the 1990 murder of his father-in-law, John Moore.

There have been 68 men and one woman executed in Georgia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Sallie was the 46th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are presently 58 men on death row in Georgia.
