Chicopee Police stand on Walmart’s roof for Cop on Top charity

Charity will help fund the Special Olympics

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – You may notice something a little different happening on the roof of the Chicopee Walmart on Sunday. Police officers will be standing on the roof to raise money for a special cause.

Officers involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Program hold “Cop on Top” events across the country, in order to help raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics.

This is the second annual Cop on Top charity. Several police officers are braving the cold weather by standing on top of the roof, holding signs and shouting, all of which is getting the attention of cars and people passing by.

Also joining the Chicopee Police officers are members of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Office and visiting police officers from area police departments.

Steven Tobey, Chicopee Special Olympics, told 22News, “I play basketball, softball, volleyball and football.”

Throughout the day there will be various raffles giving people who stop by a chance to win some prizes, and anyone who stops by will have the chance to meet some of the Special Olympic athletes.
