Virtual reality is not gaining traction

Manufacturers may have to wait another year before sales take off

(NBC News) – After a lot of buzz around virtual reality devices this year, companies are struggling to get rid of this would-be hot item.

The immersive 3-D technology was set to be a big seller during the holiday season, but the research firm Superdata has revised its forecast for Playstation VR and other head-mounted devices to account for the sluggish sales.

“VR goggles right now are not quite mainstream enough for most consumers, but something that gamers would like to have,” said Adobe Data Analyst Tamara Gaffney.

With prices soaring for the high-end goggles, manufacturers may have to wait another year before sales take off.
