AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The American flag is flying at Hampshire College again, nearly a month after the college’s controversial decision to remove it from the campus’ main flagpole.

The incident captured national attention and attracted nearly 1,000 veterans and residents to the school Sunday in protest of the decision.

22News spoke with veteran Victor Nunez Ortiz, who helped organize Sunday’s rally. Nunez Ortiz told 22News what the American flag means to him and how he and a large group of veterans plan on celebrating the return of the flag on campus this Sunday.
