Victim identified in deadly Enfield hit-and-run

ENFIELD, Conn. (WTNH/WWLP) — Enfield police are investigating after a 20-year-old was struck and killed by a car on Route 5 early Friday morning.

Just after 1:00 a.m., police say that 20 year-old Jeremy Mercier of Enfield was skateboarding on Route 5 in the vicinity of Orlando Drive when he was struck by a car traveling north. The car drove away following the crash.

Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza told 22News Mercier was found on the side of the road.

It is unclear whether Mercier died at the site of the crash, or shortly thereafter. Officers said they are treating this investigation as a hit-and-run.

The road was closed between Orlando Drive and Meadowlark Road for several hours while police conducted their initial investigation. No description of the vehicle is available yet.
