President-elect Trump insists flag burners should be punished

He those caught should lose their citizenship

(CNN) – The Hampshire College flag controversy was getting some national attention Thursday night.

At a rally in Cincinnati, Ohio, President-elect Donald Trump said, “Do you agree with my stance? That is people burn the American flag, there should be consequences, right? I think so.”

After someone burned the American flag at Hampshire college, Trump is proposing consequences for anyone who does so. In a tweet just a couple days ago, he said those consequences could include jail time or a loss of citizenship.

However, it’s controversial. The U.S. Supreme Court has twice ruled that flag-burning is protected under the constitution as an act of free speech.
