SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Board of License Commission renews liquor licenses for local establishments on November 30th of each year.

This year, four businesses failed to apply for a renewal by the deadline; Glo Ultra Lounge and Shadow Lounge of Worthington Street, and Aquarius Night Club and Panache Ballroom on State Street.

Alesia Days from the license commission told 22News that missing the deadline means essentially having to start the lengthy process of applying for a whole new license, all while being unable to sell alcohol.

“Often times they’re not renewed by the first of the year, so that would require them removing the alcohol from their shelves, or from their package stores, and not being able to serve alcohol until that license has been restored,” said Days.

The establishment’s current licenses run through December 31st. The license commission said often, businesses that have to apply for a new license have to stop selling alcohol for an entire month.
