SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – After more than two decades of service, State Representative Ben Swan is retiring. Dozens of dignitaries, family members and friends gathered, Wednesday night, at the Barney Carriage House in Springfield’s Forest Park to celebrate the civil rights legend.
Swan has worked in government for more than 22 years, and has held his seat as State Representative since 1994.
He told 22News he wants to be remembered as, “A person who attempted to serve the least of the people. The people who really needed representation. People who normally didn’t get a lot of release from government.”
Representative Swan said he plans to write a book and teach.
