Chicopee man allegedly used air conditioner to break into apartment

Police reported finding jewelry was in the suspects pockets

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A 27-year-old man from Chicopee was arrested, late Wednesday morning, after he was reportedly seen breaking into an apartment at 16 Alvord Avenue.

According to Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk, the call about the break-in came into the department around 11:05 a.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they found that the back window to a first floor apartment was smashed.

Witnesses told police the alleged suspect used an air conditioner to smash the window to get inside the apartment and hadn’t left, Wilk said. After surrounding the area, the officers went inside, and found and arrested the suspect, later identified as Relando Lee Perkins.

Wilk said the officers checked Perkins for weapons and allegedly found pieces of jewelry in his pockets. Perkins was then taken to the Chicopee Police Department for booking, and held on $500 bail until his court appearance on Thursday.

Perkins was charged with the following:

  • Breaking & Entering into a Building for a Felony
  • Larceny from a Building
