WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts business owners are doing more international traveling. Tuesday night, they learned how a new non-stop flight out of Bradley International Airport to Dublin can impact their business.

Through research, the Connecticut Airport Authority determined that 23 businesses from western Massachusetts and Connecticut were spending more than $40-million on trans-Atlantic travel.

Jeff Wright of Aer Lingus said, “Saw that as an opportunity to bring in a non-stop service to Ireland and connections to Europe to serve all the industries in this area, so the money was here.”

Joe Peters of Universal Plastic in Holyoke said, “Most of what we ship goes to Ireland, so we’re traveling back and forth to Ireland all the time.”

Instead having to fly out of Logan International Airport in Boston to get to Ireland, you can make the shorter drive to Bradley.

According to Kevin Dillion of the Connecticut Airport Authority, “We’re talking about an area that’s about a 90 minute drive from Bradley airport. When you reduce that number down to a 60 minute drive, within that 60 minute drive, there are over 800,000 trans-Atlantic trips that are being generated on an annual basis.”
