(WFSB) – A mob of teenagers burst into a Connecticut store and rob it of candy, it appears that these sort of “flash mob thefts” are gaining popularity on social media and the like.
The video is stunning. A stampede of kids rush a Capitol Avenue convenience store. “They knocked everything on the floor. The candy box. They took some, but they damaged everything for the candy,” said Ameer Orjani.
Orjani is a manager at this shell station that was ambushed at 10 on Saturday night, “We cannot tell why they are here and why they did this. We can’t figure it out.”
The motive is still unclear. Why would all these kids come just for candy?
That appears to be the method, Malik Bonilla sheds some light. The Hartford teen says what you’re seeing here is a popular type of robbery these days. “There’s videos on Facebook. They do that in New York and stuff. They ransack the stores and take the stuff.”
Never did he think it would hit his hometown. Right now, police are pouring over this surveillance looking to ID those boys and girls involved.
With this type of flash mob mentality growing in popularity, Bonilla warns, this could be a disturbing trend this holiday season, “At the end of the day, these are our businesses that we come to, buy our food from and you shouldn’t be doing stuff like that.”
We saw distributors reloading the shelves at the shell today and they’re keeping a watchful eye too.
Anyone with information about this robbery, or any of the suspects involved are asked to contact the authorities.
