$1,000 in items stolen from Yankee Candle store; 2 being charged

Connecticut residents stopped while trying to get onto I-91

SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Numerous candles, Lego playsets, and Beanie Babies were among the more than $1,000 in items stolen from the Yankee Candle Village store in South Deerfield over the weekend, police say. Two Connecticut residents are now facing felony charges in connection with the theft.

Deerfield police said that the theft took place on Saturday. Yankee Candle staff noticed the two suspects smuggling items out of the store in canvas bags. They tried to stop them, but the suspects got into a car and drove away. The staff members got a plate number and had a description, of the vehicle, which was communicated to police.

Moments later, Whately Police stopped the car as the suspects were turning onto Interstate 91 South. Police were able to recover all the items stolen from the store. A criminal complaint is being filed against the suspects, who will be summonsed to court.

The suspects’ identities are not being released at this time.
