SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 500 runners participated in the Bright Nights 5K Road Race in Springfield, Monday night.

The pre-registered participants gathered under the Seuss Land arch and ran their fastest through the magnificent lighting displays.

Registration opened on September 12th at midnight, and within nine minutes, 250 of the 500 spots were taken, and all were filled within the next few hours.

First-time runner Jeffery Anderson-Burgos of Holyoke told 22News he was most looking forward to running under the beautiful lights. He said, “This is actually my first time at Bright Nights, so it’s gonna be a whole new experience running it, as well as just seeing the lights, so it’s great.”
