EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A lack of November rainfall hasn’t helped the ongoing drought conditions in western Massachusetts.

Many residents in Easthampton are concerned about how dry Broad Brook has been. Broad Brook runs along Hendrick Street and it’s almost completely dry. Many residents never experienced such dry conditions like this before.

22News spoke with one resident who said he’s been fishing for almost 70 years in Easthampton and has never seen such a lack of rainfall. Lenny said, “Hampdon ponds, I’ve been catching them this year but its almost 4 to 5 feet shallow than it is this place here is dammed up and its a good thing it is cause it keeps the water in here.”

Lenny said he used to fish in the brooks but most of them have dried up and don’t have fish in them anymore.

The long, continuous drought here in western Massachusetts has shown no improvements. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor still has parts of western Massachusetts in an extreme drought.

The month of November was a dry month for western Massachusetts. We only saw about an inch of rain leaving us about 3 inches below our November monthly average of 3.93 inches.

All data is recorded at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee.
