3 arrested following shooting on Central Street in Springfield

Shooting victim is in the hospital

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – One person is in the hospital, and three people have been arrested, after a late morning shooting in Springfield’s Maple High-Six Corners neighborhood.

Springfield Police Capt. Cheryl Clapprood told 22News the incident took place at 494 Central Street, which is the location of a small shopping plaza.

Our 22News crew could see police tape being set up, and evidence markers being placed down in the parking lot.

Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that one victim was taken to the Baystate Medical Center emergency room in a private car. He said that the victim is in stable condition, and is expected to survive.

Springfield police had broadcast to nearby departments the description of a vehicle seen leaving the site of the shooting. Holyoke Police Lt. Michael McCoy told 22News that one of their officers saw a vehicle matching the description given by Springfield police, coming off Interstate 391. Our 22News crew could see three people in custody near a dark SUV that was pulled over, they were then taken away by Holyoke and State Police.

Delaney told 22News that three suspects were arrested, and that they will be arraigned Tuesday morning in Springfield District Court.
