SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Another warning for the holiday season. Drunk driving accidents usually spike this time of year.
According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is the deadliest for drunk driving accidents. 973 people were killed in drunk driving crashes between Thanksgiving and New Year’s in 2015.
Springfield resident Kevin Miranda told 22News that he is mostly concerned with underage drinkers getting behind the wheel. He said, “My concern is not just for myself, but for these kids, and I would hope that, during the holiday season, the city of Springfield will start going after these bars and stop these kids before someone gets killed out there.”
Just over the past 5 days, state police in Connecticut have arrested 51 people for driving drunk.
