SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Thousands gathered at Yankee Candle Village in South Deerfield on Saturday to kick off the holiday season in style. 22News spoke with many families about what this annual holiday tradition means to them and to their kids.
There was no shortage of holiday activities or spirit at the Yankee Candle Village and everyone was there for one important reason: To meet Santa!
Audrianna Giroux-Withers of Belchertown said “There are some little kids here very excited to meet see Santa and tell him what we want for Christmas.”
Santa made quite an entrance when he arrived in style, on a fire truck. Hundreds of kids on their parent’s shoulders rushed to greet him as soon as he pulled in. As he made his way through the crowds hundreds of adoring fans stopped to wave, say hello and tell him what they want for Christmas.
Even though it may mean waiting in line for several hours, 22News spoke with many families who said they are most looking forward to taking a picture with Santa.
Shirissee Morgan of Springfield said “The kids have never really taken a picture with Santa before.”
While Adelei Bernard of Palmer said “We all want to see Santa, we’re excited for the holiday spirit so we’re here for as long as it takes.”
For many families, seeing Santa at the Yankee Candle Village has become an annual tradition.
Sarah Moggio of Westfield said “We’ve been doing it since she was born in 2013 so we figured we’d keep it going.”
Along with Santa’s much anticipated arrival, Christmas carolers, horse drawn hay rides, and Santa’s elves all helped to kick start the Christmas season…nearly a month in advance of the big day.
