Mayor Domenic Sarno furious about Mardi Gras shooting

An arrest warrant has been issued for the alleged gunman

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Strong words from Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, after two men were shot overnight in the parking lot of the Mardi Gras strip club in downtown Springfield.

The Mayor told 22News that he’s ordered a hearing to review the security at the Mardi Gras.

The move comes after two men were shot and wounded in the strip club’s parking lot around 2:00 Saturday morning. One of the victims was shot in the leg, the other victim was shot in the stomach.

Mayor Sarno told 22News: “We’ve had some alarming issues that seem to continue to evolve around the parking lot area. Even with police on the scene this is how brazen these repeat violent offenders are. We’re not going to tolerate this. I’m going to continue to bring that broom out and we’re going to be making a clean sweep, and to sweep this garbage, these violent offenders out of the city of Springfield.”

Both victims are expected to survive. Mayor Sarno said he has been in contact with Police Commissioner John Barbieri, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the alleged gunman.
