CT troopers make 31 DUI arrests already

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut State Police say stepped up traffic enforcement over the holiday weekend has already led to 31 drunken driving arrests.

The department began increased patrols on the state’s highways at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and will end the special enforcement period at 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

The department says as of 8 a.m. Friday it has already responded to 199 accidents, 15 with injuries but none fatal.

In addition to the 31 drunken driving arrests, troopers have issued 416 citations for speeding and 53 for seat belt violations.

During last year’s Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period, troopers made 46 drunken driving arrests and responded to 513 accidents, one fatal.
