PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts state police say a driver heading the wrong way on Interstate 495 has died after crashing head-on into another vehicle.
Spokesman David Procopio says it happened at about 2 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes in Plainville. The driver who caused the crash was identified Friday as 22-year-old James Keating, of Norton.
The driver of the car that was struck, a 21-year-old Barnstable woman, was taken to a hospital in Rhode Island. She’s listed in serious condition. Her name has not been released.
Troopers received reports of a wrong-way driver between Exits 13 and 14.
When they arrived in the area the car that had been heading the wrong way already had slammed into an oncoming car.
The crash remains under investigation.
