SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield police officers, and some teddy bears, provided some comfort to a family unnerved after a rock was thrown through their window.
According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, officers from the C-3 policing unit were in the process of making an arrest on Orchard Street Wednesday night, when they were approached by a distraught resident who said a large rock was just thrown through his living room window by an unknown person. His family was sitting in the living room at the time the rock came through the window, and that they were all afraid, with some of the smaller children in the house crying.
Police went to the house, where Delaney says everyone was still shaken up by what happened. To calm them down, police brought in about a dozen teddy bears.
“Right away their tears turned to smiles and the officers ‘hung out’ with the family for a while to make sure the rest of their evening was calm,” Delaney wrote on the department’s official Facebook page.
There is no word at this time on who might have thrown the rock.
