1 dead, 1 injured in wrong-way crash on I-495

Driver was headed northbound in southbound lanes; struck another car

PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police say a driver heading the wrong way on Interstate 495 has died after crashing head-on into another vehicle.

State police spokesman David Procopio says it happened around 2 a.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes in Plainville.

The driver of the car that was struck was injured and taken to a hospital in Rhode Island. No information was immediately available on the driver’s condition.

Procopio says troopers received reports of a wrong-way driver between Exits 13 and 14. When they arrived in the area, the car that had been heading the wrong way already had slammed into an oncoming car.

Authorities did not release the names of those involved.
