SUNDERLAND, Mass. (WWLP) – The Sunderland Police Department has been awarded a new portable breathalyzer, which only a handful of police departments have been awarded in the state.

The new breath test is a Draeger Acotest 68-20 unit. It’s used by officers to conduct field sobriety tests on suspected drunk drivers.

The $800 device will replace the current test that is more than 13-years-old that was taken out of service this spring. This breath test is the newest version of the current model.

Sunderland Police applied for the Draeger Alcotest back in August.
