CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News was out on the MassPike in Chicopee Wednesday night and there weren’t many vehicles on the highway.
22News stopped at the Fifties Diner over by Exit 6, where we met a truck driver who just came from the eastern part of the state.
“Over by Charlton, that’s the worst area right there. Everybody’s heading to Connecticut. You gotta have a lot of patience,” said William Decelle of New Hampshire.
Decelle has been driving trucks all across the country for the last 25 years. He told 22News the art of Thanksgiving Day travel, is traveling at the right time.
“I’m usually on the road by 3a.m. and I like to be getting done as early as I can,” Decelle said. “If you want to run at night, that’s even better.”
If you are traveling at peak hours Thanksgiving morning, allow yourself some extra time. The chance for some light snow or rain could slow you down and impact your travel time.
