SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police detectives were investigating two shooting incidents that turned out to be related Wednesday night.

At first, a car was hit by gunfire on Sycamore Street at about 6:20 p.m. Friday.  Springfield Police Lt. Mark Rolland told 22News that detectives recovered 17 spent shell casings on Sycamore Street.  Lt Rolland said the car was parked at the time of the shooting.

Lt. Rolland said a shooting victim walked into Baystate Medical Center 22 minutes after the Sycamore Street incident.

Lt Rolland told 22News that the victim had been shot four times on Sycamore Street.

The victim told detectives he was walking on Sycamore Street when he heard gunfire and started running.  He quickly found out that he had been shot.

“At that point he called a friend for transport to the hospital,” Lt. Rolland said.  “The victim had been shot four times, twice in the chest.  His wounds are not life threatening.”
