SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  A lot of economic development is in the works in Springfield. Mayor Domenic Sarno said Springfield is on the verge of unprecedented economic growth.

The City of Springfield and the Springfield Regional Chamber gathered at City Stage for Tuesday’s event, Rising to New Heights, to discuss current economic development initiatives that are in the works here in Springfield. They are also looking at what changes can be made to improve the region down the road.

The City’s Chief Development Officer Kevin Kennedy told 22News this is an opportunity for the business community to work with the City and the Regional Chamber.

“Things are really moving forward and Springfield is going to be a completely new city in about 24 months,” said Kennedy.

The event showcased a new video and images of the city’s major economic initiatives: MGM Springfield, Union Station and Chinese rail-car maker, CRRC railways.

This event is all part of the Springfield Regional Chamber’s mission to support economic development in the business community and the region.

“The city is on the rise there is a lot going on and happening in the city at once and we want to be a part of it,” said Developer of Mercedes Benz in Springfield, Peter Wirth.

“When Springfield succeeds the entire western Massachusetts region succeeds, and most of the communities are so closely connected we have to work to make sure everyone grows and we have a thriving community,” said President of the Springfield Regional Chamber Nancy Creed .

“All the different things that we’re doing with our renovation district will also be up and running and I think you’re going to see Springfield acting very much like regional capitals should act. We’re going to have offerings here that we’re gonna want to share with everyone in the region,” said Kennedy.

All of this development means thousands of new jobs in Springfield.
