October unemployment rate lower than last year’s

The state's unemployment rate is 3.3 percent as of October.

BOSTON (WWLP) – Massachusetts experienced the largest drop in the unemployment rate of any state from October 2015 to October 2016.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment dropped 1.5 percent over the year time period.

Massachusetts jobless rate falls to 3.3% in October

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reports that the state’s unemployment rate is at 3.3 percent as of October. Job gains occurred in 10 of the 15 areas in which job estimates are recorded. The largest gains occurred in the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, Springfield, Worcester, and Brockton-Bridgewater-Easton areas.

The estimates are based on different statistical methodology specified by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
