Monte’s March provides money and food for those in need across western Massachusetts

The goal is to help those who may not have a meal this Thanksgiving

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – 93.9 “The River’s” Monte Belmonte ended his 43 mile walk with a band and friends at Seymour’s Pub in downtown Greenfield on Tuesday.

Belmonte left the Worthington Street Shelter in Springfield on Monday, pushing a shopping cart and broadcasting, urging listeners to donate food and money to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. The goal is to help those who may not have a meal this Thanksgiving.

Belmonte told 22News, “This is a real issue here. It’s not something that we can food bank our way out of solely, but that food bank is there for us to support and it’s our last line of defense to make sure that food gets on the tables of the communities of western Mass.”

Over the last 6 years, “Monte’s March” has raised $393,000, providing more than 1.1 million meals to people in need across the Pioneer Valley.
