Not guilty plea for suspect in deadly Springfield stabbing

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 29 year-old Springfield resident was arraigned on a murder charge Monday; more than a day after he allegedly stabbed a man to death inside a downtown parking garage.

Anthony Casiano of Springfield was arrested following the attack Saturday night in the garage at Dwight and Hillman Streets. Springfield Police Lt. Richard LaBelle told 22News that the stabbing is believed to have been the result of a fight over cars.

Twenty-six year-old Benjamin Lariviere of Wilbraham died as a result of his injuries.

Casiano pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday afternoon, and was ordered held without the right to bail. He is due back in court on December 20.

The death was the city’s 12th homicide of the year.
