Rep. Neal: Term limits on Congress not necessary

Response comes from President-elect's proposal for Congressional term limits

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – President-elect Donald Trump wants to impose term limits on Members of Congress.

In an interview over the weekend, Trump said the move would help “clean up the system” by setting limits on how many terms that members of the House and Senate can serve.

Members of Congress, including local Rep. Richard Neal, says that the U.S. has a system for term limits in place.

“I think that we already have them; we call them elections,” Neal told 22News. “What I think is interesting about it is it’s probably a good idea for the President-elect to have that conversation with the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, because he seems to have taken a different position.”

Both Republicans and Democrats have criticized the concept of Congressional term limits.
