SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield has announced which organizations will be receiving money raised through the 2016 Annual Catholic Appeal.
Nearly $300,000 in financial awards will be distributed to community based recipients.
Monday, Bishop Mitchell Rozanski held a press briefing where he announced the recipients, which include the Homework House and Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen.
Bishop Rozanski said many people reach out and ask for support from the annual catholic appeal.
“There are many who apply to the grants, we try to answer as may as possible, and I’m truly grateful to the generosity of our people in the diocese of Springfield in seeing the needs that we answer through the annual catholic appeal,” said Bishop Rozanski.
Also at Monday’s event, Bishop Rozanski took an opportunity to talk about the recent acts of intolerance that have taken place in western Massachusetts.
He encouraged the Catholic community to speak out against acts of hate and make an effort to help those who are in need.
