Gas prices falling in time for holiday travel

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Gas prices are falling around the United States, just in time for one of the busiest travel times of the year.

According to GasBuddy, gas prices in 44 out of 50 states are lower than they were a week ago. GasBuddy is projecting the national average gas price this Thanksgiving to be $2.11, making it the third lowest average price in more than ten years. Average prices for the holiday have only been lower in 2008 at $1.81 per gallon and in 2015 at 2.05 per gallon.

In Springfield, average gas prices have fallen 4.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.08 per gallon.

Average gas prices in areas around Springfield have gone down in the past week as well:

Worcester- $2.11 per gallon, down 4.2 cents per gallon
Connecticut- $2.28 per gallon, down 2.2 cents per gallon
Hartford- $2.22 per gallon, down 3.2 cents per gallon
